Our meditation services are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00 – 8:30pm. The service consists of the same components as our Sunday service—burning of incense, sitting meditation, standing/walking meditation, chanting, Dharma message and discussion class—but the greater emphasis is spent in meditation. You may bring your own cushion, or use the ones provided in the Temple hondo, or sit in the hondo pews.
No previous meditation experience is required and there is no cost to participate (although donations are always and cheerfully accepted).
Before the Meditation Service is a 20-minute yoga-stretching session from 6:30 – 6:50 PM. Meditation is enhanced by mind-body coordination. Consider taking 20 minutes to prepare your mind and body for meditation by practicing very simple yoga-style stretching, calming, and focusing techniques. All techniques will be demonstrated and are performed either seated or standing. No special clothing is required. Note: You do not have to attend the yoga stretching session to attend the meditation service.
